The Perspective We Are Passing On To the Younger Generation

The author is 20 years old

Modern Life

Society pressures us to the edge of insanity
And sadly along the way we lose our humanity
pushed by others to follow the strangling greed
so many of us blindly follow those that lead

The banks own our lives the moment we go into debt
on our tragic short time they have placed their bet
knowing we will be their slaves till the very end
they cleverly convince us it’s only a ‘hand’ they will lend

due to the speeding, mindless blur of modern life
we’re continuously kept in a state of internal strife
endlessly divided by the elite in their ivory towers
we long ago forgot to take the time to smell the flowers

We rush by the frozen faces lost in the snow
forgetting so easily of those forcefully kept below
ignoring the tragedy of the few trapped by cold
fear of the majority keeps us doing what were told

All my life I’ve spent traversing this concrete beat
silently worrying about my poor tired feet
Now, I don’t even know if I can go another mile
without waking up to someone with a smile

  2. THE A MAN,
I don’t know about that, well I’m not sure how you perceive ‘corruption’, because bad or good knowledge is knowledge. By the age of 19 I had been to juvenile twice and did four months in the county jail, but that doesn’t mean all the bad things I learned and experienced had consumed me and they didn’t make me a bad person. In jail people look out for one another more than they do out here and I can honestly say from experience that there are a lot of people that don’t belong in jail (not all of them). But growing up around people who constantly conive to survive you are able to recognize certain patterns in which criminal agendas are structured to manipulate all the people in a non-criminal environment and figure out what the potential goals are by being able to look at the big picture from their perspective. And as far as I can see they lured a lot of good (well semi-good) people into doing not so good things and now those facts are being used as leverage to keep those people doing the dirty work while the people orchestrating it all keeps their hands clean. And when it’s all said and done they end up getting exposed anyway. WHY? Because they’re a liability.

  3. This is from my Grandson. I have always been proud of both him and his equally talented sister, but the maturity shown in this poem takes my respect of and love for him to a new level.

And I had absolutely no idea that one of his talents was to write poetry – a difficult medium for anyone.

I would say to Kate that HE is far from depressed. He is fun loving, widely travelled across four continents and has lived and studied in Europe. BUT he is concerned about what he has actually seen as a result of these travels, such as orphans in African villages. Maybe I can learn something from him.

  4. Here is the truth (if you have not already sen it)
Thank You George for speaking up

  5. Even T. S. Eloit had an editor . . .

    Modern Life

Society beckons us to the edge of insanity
long the way we surrender our last humanity
we covenant with others to be strangled by greed
blindly we follow those thieves who do us lead.

The banks own our lives the moment we indebt
on our tragic short time they have placed their certain bet
knowing we will their slaves be until the very bitter end
they cleverly suborn us – it’s only a ‘hand’ they will lend.

Due to the speeding, mindless blur of modern life
we’re continuously kept in a state of internal strife
endlessly divided by the elite in their ivory towers

NB: the fourth stanza is brilliant: we walk by and ignore those who are even in greater trouble than ourselves. Rae: rework the 5th de novo.. Othewise – this is definitely publishable. LivingLies today: New Yorker tomorrow!!!!

    Please –

  6. frankielee taking a hit from the bong is not the point.

That a person who was at her private home took advantage of her by taking a picture of her in her private home and made it public.

That person was probably considered a friend. Or a friend of a friend.

That is inhumane. That is mean and cruel.

the deal with the devil. Trading basic human needs for fame and money.

oh well I hope I clarified myself.

  7. Oh please A man, taking a hit from a bong does not equate to making a pact with the devil, as your round about reasoning surmised. And leave her humanity out of it. Gheez! Get a grip!

  8. Funny or by coincidence today they showed Myley Cyrus taking a hit from a bong.

The video was taken by a so called friend while at a party at Miley Cyrus home.

All the Money and fame comes at a price.

Miley’s Humanity was taken away from her. That is the deal her family made with the Devil.

  9. The 20 year old mind has not been corrupted yet.

    NEVER AGAIN.

  10. “fear of the majority keeps us doing what were told”

THAT’S WHY WE WERE GUARANTEED A REPUBLIC BECAUSE DEMOCRACIES ARE SELF DESTRUCTIVE

See this youngster knows what’s up and he’s only 7 years younger than me. Kinda reminds me of my ancestor (well maybe) Percy Shelley. A great poet.
PS These are the perspectives that count, because we don’t have the past experiences to reflect on and we know by our own instinct things are not going to be alright. But everyone else says “don’t worry it will get better, these thing just happen”. I got news for you NO THEY DON’T, economic crises aren’t accidents driven by the forces of nature, they’re intentionally induced to cause dispare and to achieve desired results to further the overall agenda of who stands to benefit the most from the occurrences.

  11. Poetry is a refelection of what is going on around a person, coupled with what exists within a person, and in no particular order. The individual person ponders and processes this information. What one reads on paper is the result. This poem is so many things; painful, truthful, honest, real, raw, sad,
and life as many of us know it…from a 20 year old!
    SOBERING.

  12. I hope everything is OK! Is she depressed? Is she very wise or does she need help?

  13. It is wonderful to watch the rebirth of the American spirit. It’s time!

  14. Very astute – Amazing how a 20 year old can have such insight into what is going on.

    Thank you.
